"Do I Really Need Another Shopping Bag?"
Eco-Living Biodiesel Tour

THE TOUR
The Eco-Living Biodiesel Tour will visit schools and festivals during 2005 - 2006. The crew will travel in a vehicle fueled by vegetable oil, and will present 'practical, everyday tips for eco-living.' The tour will visit eco-projects in various communities, such as schools built of recycled materials or sustainable recycling projects; and will journal photos and stories on this website. There will also be a documentary film made of the tour.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Tour is to cultivate awareness of our impacts on the future, and how simple shifts in our daily lives and habits, can be a critical point of change for a renewable and sustainable future.

Each of us can and must champion the evolutionary breakthroughs necessary to sustain all life. The journey of a champion is difficult AND our access to a joyful life.

~ Judy Knox, godmother of the straw-bale construction revival and author of book in progress, Journey of a Champion.

THE BOOK: SCHOOL FUNDRAISER, SCIENCE PROJECT

The book, Do I Really Need Another Shopping Bag...tips for eco-living, will be offered to schools at a modest cost as a fundraising tool; and cloth bags and backpacks with the Tour logo will be available. Students at schools who participate will assist by searching out eco-projects in their communities, and will have the opportunity to help prepare biodiesel fuel and see it work.

BIODIESEL - A SUSTAINABLE FUEL

Rudolph Diesel developed his engine in 1895 to run on any vegetable oil, as well as petroleum products. In 1913 Diesel was discussing converting the English submarine fleet to Diesel; and on a trip across the English Channel from his home in France, he disappeared, his body found later adrift in the Channel. English newspapers suggested, he was assassinated by proponents of the 'petroleum wars.'

Any modern diesel engine easily burns vegetable oil (smelling somewhat like french fries), and there are several ways to accomplish this. The tour crew will collect the vegetable oil they burn from restaurants along the way, and involve students in the process, to learn about alternative, sustainable, renewable, clean fuels.

HOW TO BE PART OF THE ECO-LIVING BIODIESEL TOUR
